New to Hypnosis?

There are two leading thoughts as to what hypnosis is. The first one, is the altered state theory, which suggests that hypnosis is a distinct altered state where when one is in hypnosis, it is a state that can be entered into to allow processing of information at an unconscious level and make changes at an unconscious level.

The other thought is that hypnosis is a state of focused awareness, just as is a state of intense concentration or even mindfulness meditation. In this state, again, much can be done to our unconscious minds.

Both ways of thinking suggest that Hypnosis is a powerful tool to help us control our deeply seated emotions located in our limbic system of the brain.

Unfortunately, although Hypnosis is virtually harmless to the individual, there has been a paucity of research in recent years. However, it will likely make a come-back just as meditation is now becoming more and more mainstream. Different techniques of hypnosis lend itself to being a very useful tool as an adjunct to other psychotherapeutic techniques.
